Thanks By the way what is the difference between the red one and the black one? Just want to be sure the black one will work OK with Vista too.

I have a superbright LED display for my gear indicator. It's probably a little bright, at least compared to the rev meter. I should have bought superbrights for both.

The battery (a NiMh 280mAh) lasts about 1.5-2 hours. I should really get a 9v adapter to power it.

I bought enough to make 2 and it cost about £15. I would reccommend finding a bigger LCD display before you start if you can to save having to re-solder and mount a new one.

Had a dig around on the net but couldn't find much. Does anyone have one of these working on Vista?

Another small update, I just added output for "engine running" which turns on a light when the engine is off, as requested by Gekkibi.

The new version can be downloaded at the original post again:

In Properties go to Resources. The number you need is the first number in Input/Output range.

As far as I'm aware Parmon only works with the default parallel port address, which is a bit of a nuisance, but does mean that this isn't a sign that your card isn't working.

Sounds nice. Have you got a photo of it?

If someone finds a better buzz sound I am happy to include it in v1.0.

It should be possible to run this together with the GI program - you need to use outgaugegateway, which splits the outgauge port into two:

I might try to incorporate the buzz as an option in the next version of GI Rev Meter though, that would be much simpler.

I'm afraid I don't know how you would do that because I'm not sure the program would run fast enough to be able to output at those sorts of frequencies.

Oh yeah. I'm surprised no-one mentioned that before.

I have released v1.1 of the GI Rev Meter program. This is an update by Kada which adds output for braking lights and reverse lights, plus some bug fixes.

See my original post for the download:

I have just released ShiftBuzz, a program which makes a buzzing sound when the shift light comes on. Hopefully this is what you were after. Please see:

Appologies to wheel4hummer, I only realised you had offered to write when I had already finished the program.

Here is an addon that creates a buzzing sound when the shift light comes on, as requested by several people recently. It was made by adapting Kada's Gear Indicator program.

It works by playing a wav file, which can be changed for a sound of your choice.

Instructions are included in the zip.

This is version 0.9. Please let me know if you find any bugs and then I will release v1.0.

Enjoy

Thanks Victor that's fine. It wasn't a request, I just wanted to work out why a Pubstat application was reporting patch X times. Now I know they must be coming from the database.

It is true! It's not too difficult but it requires a lot of soldering, you'll be a great solderer by the end of it. I think mine has around 80 solders in it! Make sure you buy exactly the right components too (the LED display must have a common anode, not a common cathode).

It could be done very easily by anyone with some knowledge of C but I'm afriad my C skills fall short of even this!

You would just need to make it beep rather than set the LED state for the rev limiter and disable the LPT port output.

You could always make one of these:

I have also made a modified version with a 5 LED revmeter. I currently have it set so that all 5 LEDs come on as a shift light. I have a tendancy to over-engine brake which damages the engine, and this makes it much easier for me to notice when I'm doing it.

The code could be modified to produce a sound rather than drive the LEDs if you know what you're doing with C. Alternatively, you could connect a buzzer up instead of one of the LEDs.

I've been using this on the gentlefoot servers too and it is a really brilliant and very useful program. Well done Starblue

Is it possible to retrieve patch X times (HL or PB) using the PubStat system?

Thanks for the update. Could you make it so it could be controlled by insim?

It is definately possible (and quite easy) to damage the FOX engine. I keep doing it as FE Gold but haven't worked out what's causing it yet. After 2/3 laps my top speed drops by 3/4mph. It may be caused by engine braking rather than hitting the rev limiter though. I'll do some more testing and post back when i find out what's causing it.

Sorry to hear about R4R, you were a great team. Hope you all find good new homes. Of coarse you'd be welcome at Crossover Racing GF, but I don't think we have very much to offer you!
